About Hampshire First

Hampshire First Bank is a community-minded bank that is committed to the success of our customers. Our primary role is to be a resource to local businesses, delivering a wide range of financial services for businesses and individuals in Southern New Hampshire.

While the history of Hampshire First Bank is not long, it is deeply rooted in community banking. The idea of starting the bank was actually the result of a chance encounter by two childhood friends at a wedding. Both had retired from successful banking careers. They struck up a conversation and concluded that there was a clear demand for a community bank headquartered and managed in New Hampshire. The result was Hampshire First Bank.

We opened our first banking office in downtown Nashua in November 2006 and have since grown to operate a total of five banking centers. We now have locations in Manchester (our headquarters), Keene, Londonderry, Nashua and Portsmouth. Recently, Hampshire First Bank joined forces with another financial institution committed to community banking. In June 2012, Hampshire First Bank became a division of NBT Bank, N.A., as the result of a merger with and into this bank based in upstate New York.

Like Hampshire First Bank, NBT Bank traces its roots to a group of business leaders who saw a need for additional banking resources in the community and came together to form a bank. Since those humble beginnings over 155 years ago, NBT Bank has maintained its base of operations in Norwich, New York, and has grown its network of bank offices to over 160 locations in five states, including New York, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania and Vermont. Our partnership with NBT Bank provides us with the ability to expand our banking services and lending power while maintaining our local roots and decision-making.
